Meet the Teacher!

My name is Sokvannara Sar, and I go by Sy (“See”). I am from Cambodia and have studied and performed Cambodian traditional dance since age 12. At age 17, I began western ballet at the school of American Ballet. I joined Pacific Northwest Ballet in 2006-2009. In 2011 I joined Carolina Ballet and am there to this day. I am the subject of a featured film documentary, Dancing Across Borders.
Through my career, I have participated and appeared as guest artist with The Suzanne Farrell Ballet at Kennedy Center, Evansville Ballet Theater, St Louis Ballet, Larry Keigwin dance troupe NY, Vail International dance Festival, International Dance Salad in Houston Texas, and many others.
I have performed featured roles in ballets such as Prodigal Son, Oberon Midsummer Night’s Dream, Frankenstein, Romeo and Juliet, and One Flat Thing by William Forsyth, just to name a few. I have also danced the roles of Blue Bird, Rubies, Tarantella, Fancy Free, and many of Ricky’s Weiss’s Ballets, and many others.

Progressing Ballet Technique - Saturday, November 20, 2:30-3:30pm
Guest teacher Chantal High, certified PBT instructor

Progressing Ballet Technique is a program developed by Marie Walton-Marion designed to help dancers and athletes understand the depths of training muscle memory. Each exercise has been developed with the guidance of a team of physiotherapists and is designed to help improve flexibility, strength, and awareness of the lower abs, hips, legs and back. It targets the smaller inner thigh muscles, the smaller lower ab muscles, quads, hamstrings, rotators, calves — everything! PBT encourages all dancers to engage the smaller muscles that sometimes lie dormant, yet are so important.
