raeford dance schedule for academic session 2023-2024

We are so excited to be bringing dance back to the community of Raeford, Hoke County, and the surrounding areas!

We have opened this year in our new space in downtown Raeford. We are still in the long process of renovation, to include getting dance mirrors installed!

Dance classes for the Academic Session 2023-2024 start Tuesday, September 5, and registration is open through December 31.

See end of page for class descriptions.

Notes:
- We need a certain number of enrollments to run each class, and each class is also limited in size. If we max out slots, we will look at the possibility of opening more classes for different dance styles and/or ages, so be sure to let us know if you are interested even if a class is full!
- Information concerning tuition, rates, dress code, etc, can be found in our Student Handbook on Raeford’s Rates & Info page. Please read this handbook thoroughly; this helps us keep our studio professional and on the same page.
- We are affiliated with AODA Fayetteville (the owner and main teacher of AODA Raeford is the former owner of AODA Fayetteville), but each campus is independently owned/operated and therefore has unique rates, policies, dress code, etc. If you are considering transferring campuses, please contact us for more important information.

Class Descriptions

Ballet/Jazz Children's Combo Class (ages 4-6): These combination classes are a designed for boys and girls ages 4-6 years old. They combine the foundational basics of ballet and jazz by covering positions, movements, stretches, and terminology. This class is also fun and interactive for children and includes time for creative expression. *Children must be fully potty-trained prior to enrollment. Thank you!

Ballet (ages 7+): Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and a great class for beginners or the most advanced student. It involves barre, center floor work, and combinations that focus on the dancer's musicality, technique, coordination, core strength, and grace. We recommend ballet for every single dancer, regardless of which style they are focusing on. AODA’s ballet classes incorporate Cecchetti and French technique, as well as some Russian technique in the more advanced levels.

Creative Movement (introduction/transition to regular dance classes, ages 2-4): This is a class where a brand new dancer can learn basic dance and coordination skills while still having fun! For many of our students, this is their first experience with a structured dance or group class, so we will explain and teach how to stand in a line, take turns, share as we dance and play games — all while having fun and moving at a more relaxed pace than our older dance classes. As a result, students will be introduced to the basic foundations of not only dance but also musicality, rhythm, motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness, as well as benefit from learning how to follow directions, group play, creative expression, cognitive/physical development, and much more. This will be a fun and exciting class, as well as a helpful tool for students when they move into older dance classes, preschool, or daycare programs! **Note: Children must be fully potty-trained prior to enrollment. Also, it is possible that this class will not perform in our Spring Recital in the same way as our other classes. Please contact us for more information.

Jazz (ages 7+): Jazz is characterized by the use of improvisation and influenced by rhythms and techniques of jazz music. Students will be pushed with this fast-paced, dynamic, and fun choreography! Jazz draws from the same techniques of ballet while changing them slightly to make them unique (purposefully turning in instead of utilizing one’s turn out, flexing feet instead of always pointing them, etc). This class is recommended for those looking for a fun way to exercise or to increase their cardio in other dance styles, and it is a must-have for those interested in musical theatre, as much of broadway choreography utilizes jazz dance. AODA focuses on the broadway style of jazz while also exposing students to other forms of jazz dance.

Lyrical (ages 7-10): This style combines the technical and fluid elements of ballet with the more athletic creativity of contemporary or modern dance, resulting in a dance style that is beautiful, fluid, and expressive. It relies heavily on the emotion of music, and it is a great form of whole-body movement, creativity, and self-expression.
