fayetteville class levels & REquirements

Adult-Only Classes:

We are happy to be a dance studio who provides numerous adult-only classes! While all of our higher level classes are open to experienced adult dancers (see office to ensure teacher approval into these classes), we also provide classes for adults only.

Ballet is broken down into the following levels:

  • Adult Beginner/Intermediate Ballet (option to perform in recital)

  • Adult Intermediate Ballet Technique (requires teacher approval)

  • **Technique classes do not participate in recital

All other adult classes are currently open level, designed for the beginner to intermediate dancer. Adults are also allowed to take most of our higher level classes, upon teacher recommendation.

Classes for Ages 2-10:

Students between ages 2-3 should take our Creative Movement class, especially if they are a brand new dancer. If a student will be turning 3yo by the time class begins, they can sign up for a combo class. This class does not participate in recital; instead, they perform at AODA at their normal class time (Date is TBA).

Students between ages 3-6 should take our combination classes which are divided into various ages: 3-4, 3-6, 4-5, 5-6, etc. These classes combine two different dance genres together during one weekly class. Their teacher will pick one genre for their spring recital dance. Many students enjoy taking more than one combo class such as Ballet/Jazz and then Ballet/Tap. If they will be 7yo by the time class begins, they can sign up for a 7-10yo class.

Students between ages 7-10 should take our 7-10yo classes. At this age, we start focusing each 55-minute class on one genre, allowing for further instruction and development. Beginning students usually start with 1-2 classes a week, adding on an extra class(es) each year as their development progresses. We always recommend dancers in this age range to take a ballet class. If they will be 11 by the time class begins, they can sign up for a Level 1 or Level 1A class.

Classes for Ages 11-Adult:

Students 11+ will take our level classes. We ask new students to start with Level 1, and after the first class, the teacher will evaluate if new students should be in another level; speak with your teacher for more information. Those who are 13+ can take the 1B class, if applicable, or the 1A class. Students should expect to stay in each class/level on an average of 2-3 years based on the individual and the class (sometimes longer for ballet and pointe!), as that is typically the time required for all the movements and technique to be covered at each level.

Class Requirements:

  • For Jazz, Contemporary, and Modern, we require all those in Level 2+ classes to take a weekly ballet class (this can include a ballet class that performs in recital or a technique class which does not perform in recital).

  • Those in Ballet 2 or Ballet 3 must also take a pointe technique class, unless otherwise given permission by their ballet teacher. Speak to your teacher about which pointe class you should take. A ballet technique class is also highly recommended.

  • Those in Ballet 4 may speak with the teacher to see if an additional pointe and/or technique class is needed.

  • Pointe requires teacher recommendation and sometimes an evaluation. Speak to your ballet teacher if you are interested in pointe. In addition, dancers must be at least 12 years old and in their third (or more) year of recent, consecutive ballet training since the age of 8. Pointe dancers must take at least one additional ballet or ballet technique class. Resistance bands are also required for pointe class.
